The vacant AFL super lightweight title will be on the line at AFL 19: Night of Champions when the returning Lionel Padilla (5-1) meets experienced veteran Dragan Pesic (17-16).
Padilla was last in action at AFL 14 when he defeated former WEC champ and UFC vet Hermes Franca in front of his hometown crowd. Coming from a grappling background where he holds a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Padilla has registered four of his five wins in MMA via submission.
However, his opponent Dragan Pesic is also a well versed grappler himself with eleven wins by way of submission. Overall Pesic holds a 100% finishing ratio and is not one to take lightly by any means. The experienced Serbian has been in the cage with some of Europe’s best since turning pro in 2005 and will be a tough test for Padilla, who might need to shake off some ring rust.
