Rodriguez defends title against UFC vet Alves at AFL 19

AFL light heavyweight champion Darwin Rodriguez (7-4) faces a stern test in his first title defense when he faces UFC veteran Amilcar Alves (18-16) at AFL 19 on March 30 in Gran Canaria, Spain.

Rodriguez won the title on AFL 15 with a fifth round TKO win over Ricardo Echarte. The 26-year-old came into his own in 2018 going 3-0 and started 2019 with another win. Now on a four-fight-win-streak, all TKO wins, he has emerged as one of the best light heavyweights in Spain.

Alves is a true veteran of the sport. Making his debut in 2006, the Brazilian has competed all over the world from the UFC to M-1 to Road FC. The 39-year-old has a very well-rounded game and is capable of winning the fight via strikes, submission or going into deep waters and eking out a decision. This fight is a proper youth vs. experience match-up.
